The 1859 Historic Hotels years.
In its final era the Hospitality House ran with some famous American company.
In its later years the Hospitality House was operated by 1859 Historic Hotels, a Texas-based group whose name honoured the founding year of its flagship — San Antonio’s Menger Hotel, next door to the Alamo. On the hotel’s own About page, the Williamsburg property stood in a line-up that included:
- The Menger Hotel and The Crockett Hotel, San Antonio
- South Shore Harbour Resort, League City, TX
- Hilton Houston Hobby Airport, Houston
- Inn of the Hills Resort and Y.O. Ranch Resort, Kerrville, TX
- Mountain Lake Hotel, Pembroke, Virginia
- The Cliff House at Pikes Peak, Manitou Springs, Colorado
It says something about the Hospitality House’s standing that a group built around historic American hotels put the Williamsburg property on that shelf — a 1970s building, but one whose address and colonial manner had earned it the company of far older names.
